Christy Kovac, President and CEO

Christy serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sheridan Construction. With nearly 30 years of construction industry experience, she embodies dedication and hard work. In her role as President and CEO, Christy helps to provide leadership and direction for all aspects of construction throughout the company. She takes great pride in every project she is involved in and has worked in several areas of the business, including preconstruction, estimating and project management.

Her experience includes new construction and renovations of medical, educational, religious, financial, retail, multi-family and industrial projects ranging from $100,000 to $65 million. Christy is the Chairperson of the AGC Central Georgia Workforce Development Alliance, Past President of the Macon Area Habitat for Humanity, and a member of the Downtown Macon Rotary Club. She also serves on the Board of the United Way of Central Georgia and on the Board of Directors with the Macon Area Chamber of Commerce. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree in Finance from Mercer University. She is also LEED accredited.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading a good book, going to the movies, musicals and sporting events. Christy’s greatest joy, however, comes from spending time with her family. She is married to Joe Kovac Jr., a reporter and writer for The Macon Telegraph, and they have two children.

Keys to a successful construction project include a team approach, proactive planning, and keeping the team informed.

How do you measure success?

I measure success by how pleased our customers are. I take pride in providing service to each and every team member – customer, designer, and subcontractor.

Shea Smith

Shea Smith, Chief Financial Officer

Shea serves as Chief Financial Officer for Sheridan Construction. His professional experience includes 20 years in public accounting working in both tax and audit. He’s also worked nine years in banking as a commercial lender. Shea joined Sheridan Construction in 2016 and enjoys putting his diverse business experience to work in the CFO role.

Shea is a native of Macon and attended the University of Georgia where he earned both his undergraduate degree and Master’s in accounting. He has held an active Georgia CPA license since 1995. As an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Macon, Shea has served as an elder and on several committees over the years. He is a past president of the Macon Kiwanis Club and currently serves as trustee to the club’s Hamilton Holt Scholarship.

When not working with spreadsheets and other tasks, Shea enjoys music, playing guitar, and generally working on music gear and mechanical projects. He has been married to his wife, Amanda, since 1992, and they have two daughters, one in college and one in high school.

Tom Rogers, Chief Operating Officer

Thomas serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Sheridan Construction. He started his career with Sheridan in 1990 as a carpenter foreman and quickly earned a position as a Field Superintendent. As a supervisor, Thomas developed long-lasting relationships with clients, some of whom are still clients today. Promoted into Project Management in 2006, Thomas continues to develop strong relationships and earns the respect of our clients, design professionals, trade partners, and workmen. Thomas now leads our Operations Teams. His depth of knowledge in construction is a true asset to our organization. Thomas works efficiently and sets a leadership example for the teams he directs. Industry professionals know they can contact him as a consultant on projects and issues they encounter with positive results.

Thomas has one son, Micah, who works as a Field Superintendent for Sheridan Construction.

Thomas enjoys the outdoors and adventure. When he’s not at work, he’s either out on the water, up in the mountains, or planning another adventure.

Christy Cranford, Chief Marketing Officer

Christy serves as Chief Marketing Officer for Sheridan Construction, where she brings 30 years of experience in customer service, account management, sales, marketing, consulting, and business development. She is genuinely interested and engaged in every project, and clients find her friendly, professional, and responsive to their needs.

Christy joined Sheridan Construction in 2017, but her connection with the firm and passion for its work goes back much further. Her father was a job site superintendent with Sheridan Construction for 30 years before he retired in 2014, making Christy among a handful of second-generation employees at the firm. Growing up, she often visited job sites with her father, a tradition she continues with her children today. Christy enjoys the excitement of watching a building take shape and seeing professionals from different trades work together to bring a project to fruition. It is rewarding for her to see a completed building serve its purpose — whether it’s a place for people to live, work, study, worship, receive medical care, or play.

Christy studied business administration at Macon State College (now Middle Georgia State University) while working with the Trane Company as part of a college program. When Trane offered her a full-time position in Waco, Texas, she seized the opportunity. Through her work with the Associated General Contractors of Georgia’s skilled trade competition and high school, college, and career programs, she reminds students that no matter their career path, they can find their place in life by showing up, studying, learning, and working hard.

Christy lives in Gray with her two daughters and a rescue dog named Noelle. She is a member of First Baptist Church of Gray, where she served as an AWANA leader for five consecutive years and founded a MOPS group (Mothers of Preschoolers). She serves with Daybreak Day Resource Center, Macon Area Habitat for Humanity, and United Way of Central Georgia. She also serves on the boards of Mount de Sales Academy, Living Truth, and Macon RBI Baseball and Softball.

Christy has co-founded a group called Women Who Build Together to empower and support the AEC industry of Middle Georgia.

Michael Canipe, Director of Preconstruction

Michael serves as Director of Preconstruction for Sheridan Construction. He joined the team as an estimator in 2017 and enjoys helping clients set their projects up for success by facilitating an accurate and detailed preconstruction process.

Michael has lived in Macon going on 20 years and attended Georgia Southern University where he earned his degree in Construction Management. He has been certified as an Asbestos Inspector since 2020 and has also completed his OSHA 30-hour safety certification. Michael is an active member of Ingleside Baptist Church, which he has attended since 2018.

Outside of the office, Michael enjoys Georgia Southern football, furniture building, and woodworking. He has been married to his wife, Georgia, since 2019, and they have three children.

Jake McCoy, Director of Operations

Jake McCoy, a civil engineering graduate from Georgia Southern, is our Director of Operations. He brings a disciplined, solutions-driven approach to every stage of project delivery. With deep experience in construction management and field operations, Jake oversees the systems, processes, and teams that keep our projects running safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Throughout his career, Jake has led complex builds across commercial, industrial, and public‑sector markets, earning a reputation for operational excellence and a steady hand under pressure. He is known for strengthening workflows, improving communication between field and office teams, and implementing best practices that elevate performance across the organization.

Jake’s leadership centers on accountability, collaboration, and a commitment to quality. He works closely with the Sheridan team and trade partners to ensure that every project meets our standards for safety, craftsmanship, and client satisfaction. His ability to anticipate challenges and streamline operations makes him a key driver of our continued growth.

Beyond day‑to‑day operations, Jake is passionate about developing talent and fostering a culture where people take pride in their work and feel empowered to innovate. Outside of work, Jake enjoys life on his family farm in Milledgeville, Georgia, where he and his wife are raising their three children and staying connected to the values that keep him centered and motivated.
