“Safety is integral in everything we do here at Sheridan Construction. We can adjust project schedules, amend budgets, rework materials for quality, but we have one shot to get safety right. Educating and empowering our employees is key to making safety a priority. It’s a company culture and a personal mindset that we have to keep our work family well.”

Christy Kovac, President and Chief Executive Officer

Construction is a physically and mentally demanding occupation. Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 401 of the 1,061 construction fatalities recorded in 2019 (BLS data). In addition, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) considers the construction industry to have one of the highest suicide rates compared to other industries. Outside stresses and distractions can interfere with a construction worker’s focus and awareness and impact their decision-making abilities and reaction times.

During Safety Week, Sheridan Construction team members across all our active projects held Safety Stand-Downs to discuss safety issues, including fall prevention and mental awareness for overall wellness of mind and body.
